Data protection-compliant hybrid cloud with Azure Stack Hub

Cloud technologies have already become part of everyday life in the private sector, but pose major challenges for companies in terms of security and data protection. Based on Microsoft Azure and Azure Stack Hub, Senior Cloud Solution Architect Dino Bordonaro (who was named “Microsoft Most Valuable Professional Azure” (MVP Azure) at the beginning of 2019) and his team developed a hybrid platform for digital workplaces – naturally under state-of-the-art security conditions and in compliance with data protection regulations.

Azure Stack Hub creates a seamless transition between the private and public cloud and is effectively the on-premises version of Microsoft’s Azure public cloud. The same Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) services such as storage, computing, networking and virtual machines are available. The system is scalable like a “digital construction kit” thanks to standardized processes. All IT services and applications are brought together for the user in a digital workplace and are available around the clock and around the globe. Whether ERP or CRM systems as well as state-of-the-art office and communication solutions for digital telephone and video conferences.

Level 4 availability and certified quality are standard

BORDONARO IT’s server racks are distributed across the two separate fire compartments of the Rhine-Neckar Data Center I (DCRN I) and its sister Data Center DCRN II. The operation and networking of the platform across the two locations ensures an additional level of reliability. In 2020, TÜV Saarland was commissioned to carry out an interconnection test in which the redundancy concept for the use of both Data Centers was certified with the highest availability level 4. Due to the high level of implemented measures, qualified personnel and standardized and documented processes, PFALZKOM is also ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified and meets the criteria of “IT Security made in Germany” from the IT Security Association Germany (TeleTrusT) and “Trusted Cloud” from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

The Data Centers enable direct peering with DE-CIX on site as Enabled Sites and thus one of the locations of the operator of the world’s largest internet node. This ensures optimal connections without diversions, including to the public clouds.

Lowest latency thanks to high-speed data connections

“For the hybrid cloud concept with Azure Stack Hub in combination with the Azure Cloud, it is critical for success that, on the one hand, personal and critical data can be processed centrally and securely on the platform on site and, on the other hand, the tools of the Azure Cloud are available in full and without delay. With the regional location and the high-speed data connection, we have an optimal constellation with the lowest latencies of 2-3 ms for the Azure regions Berlin and Frankfurt”, Dino Bordonaro praises the performance.
