Regional and energy-efficient cloud services from and for SMEs in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region

Rhein-Neckar.io offers cloud and IT services for SMEs in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The focus is on digitalization “from here”: regional, trustworthy and data protection-compliant. Rhein-Neckar.io is not a single company, as several IT and digital service providers from the region have joined forces in a consortium to create a strong, local and digital infrastructure for SMEs.

PFALZKOM’s high-availability Rhine-Neckar Data Center is home to the cloud services of the partners in the Rhein-Neckar.io consortium, in which the cloud services are operated. Data Center operations are highly energy-efficient, with the energy management system certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 50001. The focus is primarily on the so-called PUE value (Power Usage Effectiveness), which is a measure of the efficiency of the Data Center infrastructure. This describes the ratio of the annual energy requirement of the entire Data Center compared to the annual energy requirement of the Data Center’s IT and varies depending on the technical and local conditions.

Accordingly, energy-efficient Data Centers have a low PUE value. Our Rhine-Neckar Data Center achieves a very good PUE value of <1.3 thanks to energy-efficient cooling technology, monitored control technology and strict separation of hot air and cold air areas, among other things. A value that is more than impressive in an industry comparison of modern Data Centers. This is because it already meets the requirements for existing Data Centers (PUE of ≤1.5) that will be legally prescribed by the Energy Efficiency Act from 2027 (for ten years now). In addition, the Data Centers have been operated with 100% green electricity since 2017.

The partners in the Rhein-Neckar.io consortium also benefit from this. Not only can they save on energy costs, they also produce lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to cloud services hosted in a less energy-efficient Data Center.

The portfolio focuses of the consortium

  • Managed IT services: Comprehensive IT infrastructure management including operation, automation and support
  • Server housing: Provision of colocation spaces in regional Data Centers with high availability and energy efficiency (PFALZKOM takes care of this part)
  • Communication platforms: Corporate communication solutions that facilitate collaboration and exchange
  • IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things): Networking and digitalization of industrial systems and processes
  • Cloud telephony: Cloud-based telephony services from consulting and project planning to operational support
  • Development environments and software programming: Provision of environments for software development including cloud infrastructure, continuous integration and delivery
  • Speech technology: technologies and solutions for speech processing and speech-based applications
  • Collaboration platforms: Secure platform offerings for collaboration in teams and with partners

We are proud to be part of Rhein-Neckar.io and look forward to continuing to create a strong, local and digital infrastructure for SMEs.
