Twin4Trucks project – Half-time

Half-time at PFALZKOM in Ludwigshafen! At the third consortium meeting of Twin4Trucks on March 14, 2024, the six partner companies Daimler Truck AG, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), Eviden, Infosys, PFALZKOM GmbH and SmartFactory-KL took stock of the past one and a half years in the project. In the meantime, concrete results can already be seen, and we will of course continue to work on them!
Twin4Trucks is a research project with six consortium partners that aims to take existing distributed production to the next IT level. Daimler Truck AG is one of the largest commercial vehicle manufacturers in the world and consortium leader and user of the Twin4Trucks funding project. New technologies such as digital twins, 5G and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology as well as artificial intelligence (AI) methods will be used.
The aim is to be able to read out and evaluate data automatically in future and thus gain a more precise insight into the potential for improving factory processes. A digital foundation layer is being developed for this purpose, which runs like a common thread through the production process. AI and UWB technologies will also be used to implement practical solutions to support employees on site, for example for locating equipment and tugger trains.
Together with the consortium partner SmartFactory-KL, a mini truck is being produced using Lego-style bricks on site in Kaiserslautern with the demonstrator landscape (various production islands). PFALZKOM is a member of SmartFactory-KL and provides the Regional Edge Cloud for this project. Secure networking and the implementation of operating concepts are also being realized.
